President Biden's "Tax-And-Spend" Policies Are Bad For America

Statement

Washington, D.C. -- House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) released the following statement on today's jobs report:

"Today's disappointing jobs report confirms once again that President Biden's tax-and-spend policies are bad for American workers, families, and small businesses.

"In the last 100 days, President Biden signed a costly and liberal spending bill that spent less than nine percent on defeating the virus, wants to spend another $2.7 trillion that will spend less than six percent on repairing our roads, bridges, and highways, and has yet another plan for a massive taxpayer-funded plan that would end up costing working Americans another $2.5 trillion. This would bring President Biden's spending forecast for the first three months of his presidency up to $7.1 trillion. But instead of helping American families and our communities "build back better,' the unemployment rate rose and prices for groceries, gasoline, and household appliances are on the rise. Experts are calling this jobs report the "worst miss in 23 years', and it was a direct result of President Biden's counterproductive policies.

"So President Biden is not fixing a crisis, but creating new ones. Now, he is proposing the largest tax increase in American history, including making our corporate tax rate the highest in the world. His plan means higher costs and lower wages for families, while continuing to pay people not to work. This will not help our economy recover. In fact, it will do the opposite.

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Unless President Biden stops doubling down on his failed tax-and-spend agenda, unless he works with Republicans to rebuild our economy, his crisis-era policies will continue to trap Americans in a cycle of fear. It's clear the best thing to do now is stop the reckless spending, make our economy more competitive, and help to get Americans back to work."
